Volunteering at WCFOC
We ask that volunteers complete a Volunteer Application, attend a Volunteer Orientation and sign a confidentiality statement for the protection and safety of our clients.
Each and every volunteer with the Women’s Crisis & Family Outreach Center spreads light in this world by reflecting the work that we do to end violence in the lives of all people. Volunteers are an essential part of WCFOC’s service delivery and contribute greatly to our success.
Volunteer Opportunities at WCFOC include:
Community Outreach volunteers contribute their time and talents to further develop human, material and financial resources for the Women’s Crisis & Family Outreach Center. Opportunities include: distributing information at community events and health fairs; helping with food and supply drives; and marketing and networking assistance. Volunteers must complete an application, have an interview and attend an orientation.
Special Events volunteers also contribute their time and talents to further develop human, material and financial resources of WCFOC. Opportunities include: chairing or working on an event committee for one of our two annual fundraising events; assisting with set up, management and clean up of special events; collecting silent auction donation items; and special holiday projects. Volunteers must complete an application, have an interview and attend an orientation.
Operations/Administrative Assistants work in our administrative office. They assist the administrative assistant by answering the door, answering the telephones, performing light clerical and other duties as assigned. They may assist with sorting, moving and stacking of donations, and light housekeeping as needed. Volunteers must complete an application, have an interview and attend an orientation.
Special Project Volunteers are individuals and groups who volunteer for hands-on projects such as landscaping and maintenance, organizing the donation room, cleaning toys, wrapping presents, etc. They also may assist with technical support. Childcare Services Volunteers provide childcare to infants, toddlers, preschool & school age children in our shelter and at our administrative offices. Volunteers are responsible for both scheduled and on-call childcare shifts during support group meetings, house meetings, just plain fun time, or as needed by staff. As childcare needs may vary each week, this is an on-call position in which volunteers sign-up to cover one on-call or scheduled 2-hour childcare shift each week. Volunteers must be 16 years old, complete 16 hours of training, pass reference and background checks and attend monthly volunteer supervision meetings.
Activities Leader Volunteers work at our shelter allowing the residents to build community, learn a new skill, or just have a relaxing fun time. Volunteers are responsible for facilitating activity groups the agency sponsors on a weekly or monthly basis for those residing in the shelter. Activities may include such things as craft classes, exercise, movie nights, cooking. Volunteers must be 15 years old, complete 16 hours of training, pass reference and background checks and attend monthly volunteer supervision meetings.
Residential Services Volunteers work in our emergency shelter to provide support for resident families and staff. Volunteers are responsible for assisting staff with day-to-day activities in the shelter and. These tasks include but are not limited to preparing rooms for new shelter or safe home residents, updating resource manuals, administrative projects, assisting clients with First Aid and medicines, checking house chores, and child care when needed. In addition, volunteers answer our 24-hour crisis hotline providing information, crisis counseling, and screening for admission to shelter. Volunteers must be 18 years old, complete 16 hours of training, pass reference and background checks and attend monthly volunteer supervision meetings.
Group Leader Volunteers are responsible for co-facilitating support groups the agency sponsors on a weekly or monthly basis for those residing in the shelter. Groups are a central component to providing support and building community in the lives of survivors, and volunteers are essential to increasing WCFOC’s capacity to provide educational and supportive group services. Volunteers must be 18 years old, complete 16 hours of training, pass reference and background checks and attend monthly volunteer supervision meetings. In addition, Group Leader Volunteers must first serve as Residential Services Volunteers for at least six months and observe at least three groups.
