School-Based Outreach Program
The WCFOC school-based program meets the needs of children requiring Targeted Behavioral Intervention. These kids are withdrawn or acting out in school in minor to moderate ways. They may have stressors at home that are impacting their ability to function at their best while at school. Divorce, substance abuse, family violence, financial constraints and military deployment of a parent are just a few factors that can create stress in a child’s life. The Universal Level of intervention offered by classroom teachers is not enough, but these kids do not qualify for the Intensive Level of services provided by School Social Workers and Psychologists. WCFOC’s school-based program fills this gap and meets the needs of our underserved children before their problems escalate.

WCFOC’s small group interventions offer children a set of skills and the opportunity to practice the skills during group sessions. When the new skill set is reinforced by the classroom teacher the child internalizes the new skill set and functions at a higher level. This results in less disruptive behavior and more healthy involvement in the classroom.

WCFOC has provided mental health services in the Douglas County School District since 2005. These services include psycho-educational small groups, whole class interventions, teacher and parent consultation, and staff trainings.
